Week 15 - Name Boards

The Meeting

As we are yet again in the run up where everyone else is working on their own thing there was little to know advancements, and so after a quick go around the group asking about where everyone is and confirming everyone’s up to date we moved on to the only topic, this is good though that everything is moving on how it should and that we are on target timescale wise. So in the past few weeks we knew we wanted to do Business card holders however we hadn’t factored them in to the original budget and so put it to the group to expand our budget and to ask who needs one but after a bit of discussion the Finance Team refuse to give money for them as only half of group will be using them and so we will have to pay for them ourselves. Personally I think this is a bad move as we have to use money out of our pocket to pay for something that should really be under the budget as at least half of the group will be using them, it would be like making people bring in their own extension cables for the Macs instead of it being a part of our job just because only half of people are using them. This could have gone better but I understand the choice to try and save the budget even if it would only be £10.

In conclusion not an awful lot happened today again as there wasn’t much to sort though, despite this though I still think the card holders should have gone better and that the decision to not fund them was hindered by both people dropping out, so less money to spend, and not making the budget earlier as well as thinking of it and factoring it in sooner which is what we really should have done when drawing up the first budget for the layout. Overall though at least things are moving forward and everything is on track.

The layout planning

One of the first things we wanted to sort was the Van booking, so we took a trip down to estates and had a chat but after a quick conversation they told us the vans where currently in repairs and wouldn’t be operation in time for the exhibition and so we would have to use trolleys to transport everything over which isn’t ideal and will certainly take longer but as long as everyone is on board is should be fine and we should be able to do it, though it will be a hindrance when setting up. After this we decided to make a new budget factoring everything we needed and when we are getting it.

The eventual total can to £81.12 (calculation shown above) this included all the paint, both white, coloured, and chalk board. We also factored in the printing of the name board and the extra rollers we would need as well as the floor protectors and all the other little nic nacs like tape, paint wipes, and floor wipes. We then planned out buying it all and who would do it and when, we decided that I would do order all the online items as there is pretty much always someone at home while Paige would get the items we need from various shops like Screwfix and Hobbycraft, then next week we would all go down to BBQ together and pick out the paint colour and chalkboard paint. This is all great as we know how a plan for getting everything and so will have everything in time for the exhibition without any extra worrying and not let it be a hindrance. The last and most major thing we wanted to get done this week is the printing of the name boards, we ended up spending last of Wednesday afternoon designing the name boards, we ended up going for a simple design of having the logo going across the side then having the Name, Course, and Profession listed to the side. We made three different ones in the colours white, black, and yellow and waited to have a vote on which one people like the best before making the printing template.

On the next day we called everyone around to vote and it went 1 for white, 2 for yellow, and with a huge majority win 7 for black. We also got everyone to write down there correct name spelling and went around asking for the rest. After this we make the printing copies for all the names, showed them to the people to make sure they were okay and then send them of for printing at the price of £21 and they should be done and ready to go for next week in time for the exhibition.

Overall I think it’s been a really successful few days for the layout as we got the transport sorted out as well as the budget and name cards. I think this advancement can be helped by the fact that everyone is a lot more on board with us getting so close to the day now with only two weeks to go. I also think what we have done will help the exhibition go better and the only thing we could have done better if go on down to BBQ today rather than next week so we have more time to plan and get things ready but it’s only a small price and we will be able to still do it next week so overall a good successful week.
