The Meeting
The first thing we tackled where the Bios which needed to be
done for the Magazine and the fact very few people had handed them in, so we
made sure to make mention of the lack of bios to the people who has yet to send
them in and hopefully over the next few days they will be completed and sent
in. The next subject was social media as we were very unsure as to what the
team where trying to do with it as they had strayed away from the original plan
but after a quick talk I understood that they had changed it to do rows of
three with three different people in the same department to help spread out the
images and create a more varied look which I agree with and think is a good
change. (social media layout shown below)
After this there was only one subject left to discuss and that was the
layout, most of the group received it well and like the layout; however some
people really didn’t like it or some of the ideas in it, the first person to
have a problem was a person from the Venue Team who wanted to know how they
were going to get cables to their mac but after quickly explaining the how the
wires would go though and under the boards she was on-board. Then however a
person from the fashion department took as strong disliking to the idea of using
mustard strips in the exhibition, she acted incredibly unprofessionally and immaturely
and began shouting her issue at me, she was upset because she believed the mustard
strips that would only be on the areas where the magazines where would be on
every or most of the boards around the exhibition and really didn’t want the
colour near her display, soon people from the Venue Team also joined in as they
also didn’t want mustard near their work. I tried repeatedly to explain that it
wouldn’t be near the work and only on the magazine stations to match the magazines
but was recurrently talked over or outright ignored, my team mate Tasha also
tried to explain it but they continued to talk over her and simply wouldn’t
listen and only continued shouting. The attitude from that person became so overwhelming
that my team mate Paige left the room as she couldn’t stand it as she was made
to feel so uncomfortable. She then started shouting at us for not booking the
vans or having any sort of backup plan even though I told her that before the
holiday was too soon and that we would be booking within the next few days and
that we did have back up vans and trollies if they were not available but she continued shouting at us for not
booking them soon and not having a ‘real’ backup plan as the vans we had couldn’t
be used by collage, though because of this I’m not sure what sort of backup
plan she had in mind. After this began to cool the person from the Venue Team
wanted to speak to me, she had decided that she didn’t like the design at all
and wanted a straight wall of boards near the railings for her work (very much
like the original plan she put forward weeks before) I explained that this
would cancel out the light to the rest of the layout but she continued to not
listen. All of this happened before I asked about the social media issues and
when I had to address the group about that I was so incredibly uncomfortable and
overwhelmed from the situation that I walked out first to calm down. The
behaviour by person from the Fashion Department was abysmal and unprovoked and
upset both me and my team mates. I admit that I can be quick to temper and be generally
quite stubborn which can cause friction like in previous ordeals but I cannot
see how anything I or my team mate could have done to provoke such a response and
the only way I can think of to have possible improved this situation would have
been to stir the discussion more to a more civilised approach rather than
directly trying to answer her.
Overall the meeting was a disaster, while the social media
eventually got sorted out the proposal of the plan went down terribly and
undone all the progress made with the previous communication issues. I think
the reason this happened was because of the hindrance of stress from the closing
deadline and the fact we are now in the final run up will have had a big impact
on people in the group. Because of this I also think this problem is here to
stay till the end as I can see it getting any better and stress increased and
so it is almost certainly going to affect the final planning stages. All I can
really do is try to keep my cool and conversations civil and hopefully not let
it affect the final exhibition be effected.
