Week 10 - Magazines Designs

The Meeting

The first matter brought up in the meeting is the budget which was set out to be made last week, we also used the full list of people I we made last week to figure out just how much money we had, overall we have £580 which with the budget should cover the whole exhibition, this advancement is great as money can start to be spent and so things can start to move forward. We also addressed a list of questions given by photography again, most of them this time where on budget what exactly they were doing with the social media accounts. They put forward that they wanted to do bars of three on Instagram where one person would have all three of the images they sent in posted in a line to give everyone a place to show their work and for everyone to send in 1-2 old pieces and 1 development piece for the project. This is great as it means social medias can start to move forward which is the beginning of the advertising process.

The next where the magazine drafts as an example of how they’d look, overall I was satisfied with the designs but feel like they could be improved and have a bit more structure to them, I gave this critique as so did a few other people and the Magazine Team responded well and professionally saying they will try some different text layouts when developing the design. This is also great as it shows communications are still going well with the team and that it will hopefully have a positive impact on the work.

The last subject brought up was the proposal of the idea of putting vinyl sticks onto the boards for the exhibition as a way of introducing people and helping to show them around, Tasha showed some the designs she’d drawn up in the previous week and the group liked them and we were to go forward with them. This is also great as it these will have a positive effect on the exhibition and just goes to show how well everything is progressing in terms of both the work and the communication.

In conclusion is was a good meeting which was overall very productive with the new magazine designs and the advancement on social media as well as the vinyl stickers and improved communication. This has all probably been helped by the passage of time as people are starting to move on from previous problems and really just want to get the work done without the drama which is great and I can only hope this progress.

 The Layout Planning

So now the art department is complete we quickly set to work on the photography department, first we went to the Octagon and measured it up just like with art and brainstormed some more ideas with the plan of going away and creating some more designs at home to show each other and put together next week. The day after we wanted to sort out the board issue, as one of the ideas we had had where to paint yellow bars on to the booklet areas in the plans, this will help gel the exhibition and the marketing campaign together and make it look more interesting and professional, so we talked around in the 3D and states departments of collage and we would be allowed to paint boards as long as we painted them back afterword’s which is great.

When home I started work on the designs, taking into consideration the research I had done the previous week I came up with their design after messing around with various shapes. (full initial design at the top of the left image)

They where all based around a centre room where the TV would be based for one of the students, it would then have two flanks similar to the art departments but this time in different proportions to accommodate the people in them. I finished of the design with a wall in the large space to add more all space- this is probably my least favourite part of the design as it is quite frankly ugly and I feel like it won’t improve the space including it but I am still happy with the base of the design and hope the rest of the team like it.

In conclusion it has been a pretty good week again for the layout, we have colour blocks confirmed and the initial designs for the photography, I have also found the research very useful and have provided me with some good information and inspiration for the designs which is also great.  I can’t really see anyway we could have improved this week and am overall happy with it.
