The Meeting
After the events of last week the atmosphere had changed
again in the meeting, it had become uneasy but as their where things to sort
out we carried on through it, most of the meeting was yet again just checking
up to make sure things where on track, such as the design and poster, the
social medias, and the magazines. Everything was on track apart from the fact
some people still hadn’t handed in their Bio for the magazines but they now
have promised they will, hopefully this isn’t another empty promise and they
will as it started to set back the development of the magazines. Next were the posters
and just how many of them we need and can afford, after a bit of discussion we
settled on 8 A3 Posters and 40 A4 posters at the cost of £130, this is good as
they can finally get on with printing and distributing them now and finally
begin with full blown advertising. We also diced to ditch the hanging banners
as at £80 each they were very expensive and just simply wouldn’t be worth it,
instead we opted for two standing banners at £40 each which will be placed at
the bottom of the stairs on the day.
In conclusion it was a pretty uneventful meeting as there wasn’t
an awful lot to catch up on since we are in the late stages now but we have managed
top get the magazines and the posters and sorted out the banners for the exhibition
all of this is good and a great advancement for the exhibition. It was also
good to see last week’s issues not hinder this week to much other the just causing
a tense atmosphere.
The Layout Planning
The first thing we looked at where the newly cut vinyl’s for
the front of the boards all of which were looking great and just as we had
ordered them, this is a great advancement as things are starting to shape up in
time for the first exhibition.
After this we wanted to know just how many
boards there are as we know we went over the initial number of 120 we were told
and wanted to make sure there was enough, for this we went to John from the 3D
and asked him just how many there where, he didn’t know but said we would go
count them and get back to us. When he came back he gave us the news that there
were only 76 boards. This is pretty devastating so we took to work immediately
trying to skim down as many boards from the design as possible and sacrificing
the plan for it. After a lot of cutting we had come down to a new plan but with
the loss of the boards the departments had become very distant and separated from
each other. We also learned that Dan, Steph, Maddie, and Rachel where all no
longer participating in the exhibition and so cut out there display areas in
the cut, this was pretty devastating and made the problem worse and the gaps
between the exhibits larger.
At this point we rigged in Lance to help and see
what he thought; he agreed with the spaces between the exhibits and proposed a
new design where all the exhibits are pushed to the back with only small free
standing corner stands to hold the magazines. This solved the gap problem and
the shortage of boards however it would sacrifices the areas and spaces we had
created which was the main aim of our original design and instead making an open
flat and not very interactive layout but we really had no choice due to the
loss of boards and had to go with it anyway. Personally I think this will be a
huge hindrance to the final exhibition and greatly affect how it looks but there
isn’t much to do other then make this compromise.
In conclusion it was great to have the vinyl’s cut and ready
to go but the loss of the original plan and the loss of what we had initially
set out to do isn’t the best but what else could we do, I only hope we can make
the best of the situation and try and make it with what we have so it still has
some sort of quality.
